Dr. Joanne Allen: Leland's Olympic Doctor
by Allison Ballard
“Go green” seems to be the catch phrase for the 21st century. Green habits often save you money, which is always a plus, but especially so in today’s economic climate. By making small green efforts, we can improve our health and life as well.

Brunswick Town: Once Hustling Port, Home of Governers and Site of Spanish Raid
by Sarah Downing
Long-neglected burial sites of the men and women who populated Brunswick County in generations past are being rediscovered. Many of the interred were poor. Many were black. They were laid to rest on former farms and plantations that have been reclaimed by nature as Brunswick County’s landscape has changed and evolved.

Quimby Cassius Reynolds has broken the sound barrier.
Almost totally deaf since childhood, the 88-year-old Wilmington resident has found his own way to a happy, fulfilling life. He brings an unyielding yet jovial spirit to the task. His children, who know the real man inside that silent world, have helped to ground him. His successful auto body repair business has been another diversion and source of pride. But his art — he is a talented if unsung painter — is his consuming passion.

Building in Lanvale Forest: Scott and Elizabeth DiSpirito
by Heather Lowery

The Cape Fear region abounds with day trip destinations from historical to recreational to relaxing. On Bald Head Island, located just off the coast near Southport, you can find all three. Because there are no cars on the island, a day trip allows you to escape the hustle and bustle of mainland life and connect with the island’s varied environments. Explore the island by electric golf cart, by bicycle or on foot and discover the oldest lighthouse in North Carolina, 14 miles of gorgeous beaches and the peace and quiet not often found in a day trip.

Share the Road: Leland's Bicycle Plan
by Kate Smith

Greg Norris is a modest man who is quick to tell of the many accomplishments of his wife, Rhonda, who, at the time of this interview, was Executive Director of the North Brunswick Chamber of Commerce.“She’s a fire-starter,” Greg says with pride. “She energizes everyone around her.” However, Greg has a list full of achievements in his own right. The Norrises have lived in North Brunswick only since 2006, and already they were active in many public facets around the area.
